As we wrote about in July and August of 2013, Bonner Springs, Kansas had formed a task force to look into repealing their “pit bull” ban after one of their residents, Debi Baker, had her Staffordshire Bull Terrier seized as a banned breed.
Baker’s dog “Titan” was returned to her last November after having been in a kennel for months. But that did not stop Baker from lobbying the city council to repeal the city’s “pit bull” ban and on Monday, January 13, 2014, the Bonner Springs City Council unanimously decided to repeal the ban in favor of a dangerous dog law.
Congratulations to Ms. Baker, Titan, and to Bonner Springs. With an animal control law applied to all dog owners equally, your community will be a lot safer going forward.
